Program Sponsor
Correctional Service Of Canada

Community Maintenance Program is a continuous intake generic prevention based maintenance program available in the community to male offenders who have completed one or more of the following correctional (CSC) 'feeder' programs which include the development of a relapse prevention plan: NSAP (high, moderate or low intensity), anger and Emotions Management and the Counterpoint Program. Those referred to the CMP must present a moderate to high risk to re-offend as measured by the SIR-RI. All refferals are made by parole officers.

Program Goals/ Objectives

The objectives of CMP are to review and apply a selected sub-set of 'core' skills learned in the feeder program(s) to real-life tasks, problems and high-risk situations in the community in order to prevent re-offending.

The skills consist of:

  • Working towards goals
  • Problem-solving
  • Dealing with emotions
  • Countering high-risk thinking
  • Interpersonal communication
  • Self-management skills

Each offender must complete at least one program cycle of 12, 2 hour long individual or group session delivered once a week prior to reassessment of his risk and needs. The offender may repeat the cycle in whole or in part depending on their management of risk and need and their success in the application of appropriate coping strategies which they include within their relapse prevention plan(s).
